We loved the Scottish Lochs but we weren't prepared for the beauty of The Lakes region which has been our favourite area, even tho there isn't a castle in sight. Windemere is a beaufitul town and lake, with it's buildings all being grey slate dry-stone walled and well maintained. We stopped at Ambleside a few towns away which was nearly as spectacular. Sue and Thy are sitting on a wall and behind them is a tiny National Trust preserved 2 story residence (?) on a bridge over the stream.
